The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has accused Russia of doing everything possible to prevent a meeting with Vladimir Putin aimed at ending the war.

According to the Ukrainian president, Putin’s goal is merely to buy time, not to negotiate an end to the conflict.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump has tried to bring the two leaders together, but in a statement earlier on Friday, he noted that the relationship between the two leaders “is like oil and vinegar—they do not get along very well.”

After a week of intensive diplomacy, during which Trump first met with Putin in Alaska and then with Zelensky alongside European leaders in Washington, the U.S. president stated that the war in Ukraine has proven to be the most difficult conflict he has tried to halt.
