Just minutes before the highly anticipated meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky issued a statement declaring that “we rely on America” in the fight for a just peace.
Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Zelensky echoed Trump’s recent remarks, calling the summit a “truly high-risk meeting” that must “open a real path toward a just peace” and include a three-way meeting between Ukraine, the U.S., and Russia.
The Ukrainian leader confirmed that Kyiv is sending reinforcements to halt Russian advances in Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia—two key regions expected to dominate today’s discussions.
Zelensky ended his message with a renewed call to end the war and urged Moscow to take “the necessary steps” toward peace.
The Trump-Putin talks, taking place in Alaska, are seen as one of the most critical diplomatic moments since the war began in February 2022.
