French President Emmanuel Macron has stressed that any peace agreement in Ukraine must be accompanied by strong and lasting security guarantees.

Macron made these remarks during a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, joined by other European leaders, ahead of Zelensky’s meeting today in the United States with former U.S. President Donald Trump.

According to reports, the purpose of the call was to express the support of Europe and Canada for Ukraine as Zelensky prepares for discussions with the American leader.

In a statement from the French Presidency, France reaffirmed its intention to work closely with the United States on security guarantees, based on decisions adopted within the framework of the Alliance of the Willing, which is led by France and the United Kingdom.

The French Presidency further emphasized that European countries must be involved in all consultations that affect them, while also strongly condemning Russia’s recent military attacks against Ukraine.
