Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is set to present Kyiv’s “victory plan” during the upcoming meeting with Western allies, which will be held in Germany.
“We will present the victory plan, clear and specific steps for a just end to the war,” Zelensky wrote on social media on October 5, referring to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine that began in February 2022.
The 25th meeting of over 50 allies and partners, known as the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, will take place at the Ramstein Air Base in Germany on October 12.
Referring to the strategy as “peace through strength,” Zelensky stated that “the victory plan foresees the necessary strengthening of Ukraine.”
The Ukrainian president noted that Kyiv has already begun discussions with the United States, Ukraine’s primary supporter during the war, and added, “we will involve all partners.”
Zelensky started mentioning Ukraine’s “peace plan” in August, later announcing that it was nearly ready and contained “four key points and one to be implemented after the war.”
During his visit to Washington last month, he presented the plan to President Joe Biden, as well as to the two candidates for the November 5 presidential elections: Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris and former Republican President Donald Trump, according to REL.
A spokesperson for the U.S. State Department stated at that time that the plan included “a number of productive steps.”
Very little is known about the plan. The Wall Street Journal, citing anonymous American officials, reported that the plan is essentially a renewed request for more weapons and a demand that countries that have provided long-range weapons to Kyiv allow Ukraine to use them to strike deep within Russian territory.
During the meeting of Ukraine’s allies in Germany, Zelensky is expected to meet with Biden.
