Volodymyr Zelensky says Ukraine has little chance of surviving the war with Russia without U.S. military support. The Ukrainian president gave an interview to the American media NBC News, which is set to be published on Sunday, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.

“It will certainly be very, very, very difficult. Of course, in every difficult situation there is hope. But we will have little chance of surviving without U.S. support,” Zelensky said in a snippet of the interview that was released.

“I don’t want to think about fighting Russia without American support. I don’t want to believe that we won’t be strategic partners,” he added.

The Ukrainian president also expressed his concern that Ukraine would be vulnerable to another large-scale attack from Russia in the future if the U.S. does not continue to provide military support.

Zelensky said Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to sit at the negotiating table not to end the war, but to reach a ceasefire agreement that would lift some international sanctions on Russia and allow its military to regroup.

“This is really what he wants. He wants a break, preparation, training, the removal of some sanctions, due to a ceasefire, and so on,” Zelensky said.
