Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with Keith Kellogg, the U.S. special envoy for Ukraine, in Kyiv on Monday. While an official photo from the meeting was released, a planned joint press conference was unexpectedly canceled.
According to BBC, reporters were briefly allowed into the room before being escorted out, and it remains unclear when or how the details of their discussions will be disclosed.
The meeting comes amid escalating tensions following former U.S. President Donald Trump’s harsh criticism of Zelensky, calling him “an unelected dictator” after the Ukrainian leader accused Trump of being influenced by Russian disinformation.
In a post on social media, Trump further dismissed Zelensky as “a modestly successful comedian” who convinced the U.S. to spend $350 billion on a war “that could not be won and should never have started.”
The unexpected press conference cancellation has fueled speculation about the nature of U.S.-Ukraine discussions amid shifting geopolitical dynamics.
