It has been a year since the four mayors of the northern municipalities of Kosovo officially assumed their duties.
Initially, they encountered opposition, there were also major tensions in May of last year, where dozens of KFOR soldiers were injured, after confronting Serbian protesters.
The chairman of Zubin Potok, Izmir Zeqiri, told Klankosova.tv that the situation has changed for the better.
“In the beginning you know we encountered a lot of resistance. We had objections. The criminal groups there convinced a part of the citizens not to accept us, specifically me as chairman. There were great tensions, which could have brought great consequences, perhaps even with the loss of a life”, said Zeqiri.
“Now the situation has changed for the better. Citizens are interested in cooperating. They are interested in projects, employment and also integration. Today I also held a meeting with citizens where we discussed projects, employment and their concerns. Most of them were Serbs”, he emphasized.
“I said before this referendum that it will not pass. I think we have gained the trust of the citizens”, said the first of Zubin Potok for Klankosova.tv
Klankosova.tv has tried to contact the other three mayors, Erden Atiq from North Mitrovica, Ilir Pecin from Zveçani, and Lulzim Hetem from Leposaviq, but they have not answered the questions until the publication of the article.
