Halil Meta, like many other patriotic youths, joined the ranks of the Kosovo Liberation Army (UÇK) to fight against Serbian occupation and liberate the homeland. With his ideals, he was determined to sacrifice everything, including his life, to end the suffering of the Albanian people and to free them from Serbia, which was carrying out ethnic cleansing in Kosovo.
On May 22, 1999, with the aim of preventing Serbian forces from advancing towards the Krojmir Gorge, in fierce battles against Serbian forces, Commander Halil Meta fell on the altar of freedom, to never be forgotten and to be remembered forever.
As an early activist of the Movement, Halil had already proven his determination, vigilance, and responsibility in organizing and expanding the UÇK. Meanwhile, Krojmir has given to the war of the Kosovo Liberation Army martyrs: Halil Metaj, Enver Olluri, Qamil Olluri, and Isa Olluri, and the martyrs: Afërditë Qeriqi and Musë Bungu. During the time of the UÇK war, Krojmir was one of the strongest points for mobilization and sheltering displaced populations. In the gorge of this village, around 30,000 residents from villages and localities of Drenica and throughout Kosovo survived.
Glory!
