In addition to the QUINT states, Kosovo is being asked by other European Union states to take decisive steps for the establishment of the Association of Municipalities with a Serbian majority to ensure the necessary support in the Committee of Ministers for membership in the Council of Europe.

From the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Austria, they said that Austria is one of the first countries to recognize Kosovo’s independence and that they support Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe.

Also, the official Vienna emphasizes that they strongly encourage the Government of Kosovo to take decisive steps for the establishment of the Association, to safely reach the necessary majority in the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.

“Austria, as one of the first countries that recognized Kosovo’s independence, supports Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe. We strongly encourage the Government of Kosovo to take decisive action in the establishment of the ASMM (Association of Municipalities with a Serbian Majority) to safely reach the necessary majority in the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe”, the Ministry told Express Newspaper of Foreign Affairs of Austria.

Steps to establish the Association in exchange for support for membership in the Council of Europe have also been requested by Germany, France and Italy.

These countries are demanding that the Government of Kosovo send the EU Draft for verification to the Constitutional Court, a step that they consider would send a strong signal of Kosovo’s commitment to minority communities.
