Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (46) has fired his army chief. Reason: On Tuesday, the intelligence service uncovered plans for an attack by Russians, in which two senior Ukrainian officers were involved. They are suspected of being responsible for the defense of state troops.
Both suspects have been arrested, it is said. They are suspected of selling information to the Russian secret service FSB and were planning to participate in the planned assassination attempt against Zelensky. ‘The FSB headquarters was tasked with finding assassins among soldiers close to the president’s personal protection, so they could take the head of state hostage and then kill him,’ says the Ukrainian intelligence service SBU.
Other possible targets of the attacks are believed to have been the heads of the Ukrainian intelligence service, Vasyly Maljuk and Kyrylo Budanov. SBU has reportedly released intercepted conversations in which the Russian side offered a Ukrainian officer $50,000 for information and participation in an assassination attempt. More soon…
