Albania’s parliament has passed a resolution declaring the Islamic Republic of Iran a state sponsor of terrorism, with 79 votes in favor.

Israel reacted positively to the decision. Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar praised Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama and the Albanian parliament for the vote, calling it “historic” and a clear demonstration of moral clarity in Albania’s foreign policy.

In his post on X, Sa’ar highlighted the resolution’s message that terrorism in all its forms constitutes one of the gravest threats to democratic societies. He wrote: “I commend Albanian Prime Minister @ediramaal and the Albanian Parliament for today’s historic resolution declaring the Islamic Republic of Iran a state sponsor of terrorism. This is another demonstration of the clear moral dimension in Albania’s foreign policy.”
