The humanitarian crisis in Lebanon, driven by ongoing Israeli strikes, risks escalating into a situation similar to that seen in Gaza Strip.

This warning was issued by Tom Fletcher, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, in an interview with Euronews.

“I fear [that Lebanon could be the next Gaza],” Fletcher said. “In fact, I fear it because this is what we are now hearing from some Israeli ministers, who are using increasingly aggressive language about what they plan to do to Lebanon.”

According to Euronews, Israeli strikes have primarily targeted southern Lebanon and the southern suburbs of Beirut.

Meanwhile, Israel Katz, Israel’s Defense Minister, warned that displaced Lebanese civilians who have been forced to flee their homes will not be allowed to return until security for Israelis in the north is guaranteed—drawing direct comparisons to the situation in Gaza.

The developments have intensified concerns among international officials that the conflict could deepen further, worsening humanitarian conditions and potentially expanding instability across the region
