One of the leaders of VLEN, Izet Mexhiti, described the protest of Albanian students—who are not being allowed to take the jurisprudence exam in Albanian, despite this right being guaranteed by the Constitution and law in North Macedonia—as a “call for awareness.”

“Language policy in North Macedonia, unfortunately, has been regulated with a half-measure law. Half-laws produce half-solutions. Therefore, the protest is a call for awareness for all political and social actors who must contribute to better legal solutions and long-term institutional policies in the country,” Mexhiti wrote in a Facebook post.

He called for greater awareness, emphasizing that student protests are always an alarm for social issues that political structures are obliged to address fully.

“Instead of politicization, I call for awareness, because student protests are always an alarm for social phenomena that political structures are obligated to address in their entirety.”
