Singer Ilir Shaqiri has been honored in Albania and appeared visibly emotional during his speech.

Shaqiri said he wanted to dedicate the recognition to “the liberators,” referring to former Kosovo Liberation Army figures currently held in The Hague, for whom he has also dedicated songs in the past.

“Three decades ago on this stage I performed a song titled I Am Europe. Today I see more and more that Albania is becoming a true lady in the eyes of Europe and the world. I feel very honored. I want to share this recognition with the generation that shaped and made the freedom and independence of the Republic of Kosovo. I want to share it with the liberators of Kosovo,” Shaqiri said.
