At the Basic Court in Prishtina, the accused in the Banjska attack, Vladimir Toliq, denied active involvement in the case during his closing statement.

He stated that he was present at the scene on September 24, 2023, but emphasized that he had no knowledge of the attack plan and had set off “blindly,” without knowing the destination.

“I was in Banjska that day and I have never denied that. But everything I am being accused of, and what is written in the indictment as my actions or participation, is not true. I did not know what would happen that day; I set off blindly because no one told me where we were going. I myself was surprised when I found myself in the village of Banjska and could not have imagined that it would lead to tragedy. I did not want to take part in it, let alone cause any violence,” he said.

Toliq insisted that he did not participate in any act of violence and is not responsible for the death of Sergeant Afrim Bunjaku, calling to be judged solely on the basis of evidence and not assumptions.

He also expressed regret for the victims but stressed that he does not consider himself guilty, accusing the Special Prosecution of Kosovo of “fabricating” evidence.

The prosecution has requested life imprisonment for Toliq and the other accused, considering them part of the group that carried out the Banjska attack.
