U.S. national security expert James Carafano has stated that the administration of President Donald Trump remains interested in restarting the dialogue process between Kosovo and Serbia, based on the approach from his first term.

In an interview with RTS, Carafano said Trump had been “very clear” on the issue and had previously put a framework agreement on the table as a basis for moving forward. According to him, there is interest in returning to that process and continuing negotiations.

“Look, the president was very clear about this in his first term, and he put a deal on the table for how to move forward with Kosovo and Serbia. I think he would be very interested in going back to that and continuing that process,” he said.

He added that the U.S. administration is looking for willing partners and will advance cooperation with countries that show readiness to engage.

“But I think he is looking for partners he can work with, and that is why he will move forward with countries that want to cooperate with him,” Carafano said, noting that the United States has been clear about how it views cooperation and relations between Kosovo and Serbia.
