Since Kosovo applied for membership in the European Union in 2022, its application dossier has not moved forward.

While the country continues to wait for the EU to address its application, acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti outlined concrete steps Kosovo is taking and said the country will learn from neighboring states that are further ahead in the integration process.

“Meanwhile, as we await the decision of the European Union, we are taking concrete steps to ensure that no time is lost on our side. We will work closely with Albania and Montenegro to learn from their experience, as they are ahead of us in this process,” Kurti said.

He added that Kosovo will begin preparing answers to the thousands of pages included in the EU questionnaire process and will organize them with the screening process in mind.

“First, we will begin preparing our responses to the thousands of pages of the Questionnaire and prepare them while taking the screening process into account. Second, we will also prepare for the establishment of interinstitutional negotiating structures, in order to save years of preparation,” he stated.

Kurti also reiterated Kosovo’s commitment to reforms as part of its European path.

“The EU’s promise is enlargement. Our promise is reforms. We can and must achieve both. This is a shared responsibility,” he said.
