KFOR Commander Ozkan Ulutash met today with Eva Palatova, Acting Head of the EU Office in Kosovo, at KFOR Headquarters at Camp Film City in Prishtina.
According to KFOR, the meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the security situation across Kosovo and to further strengthen coordination between the two institutions.
“The KFOR Commander expressed his appreciation for the continued cooperation between KFOR and the EU Office in Kosovo.”
The meeting comes shortly after the EU stated that the conditions have been met for reopening the Ibër Bridge in Mitrovica to vehicular traffic, according to Rks News.
KFOR had previously announced that it had begun a “gradual transition” of its permanent presence on the bridge.
KFOR reiterated that it continues to carry out its mandate under UN Security Council Resolution 1244 of 1999, contributing to a safe and secure environment for all people living in Kosovo and ensuring freedom of movement at all times and in an impartial manner.
KFOR continues to work closely with the Kosovo Police and the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX), within their respective security roles.
The timing of the meeting is notable given the recent developments surrounding the Ibër Bridge, although KFOR and the EU Office have not publicly confirmed whether the bridge’s reopening was specifically discussed.
