The U.S. Embassy in Tirana has announced a historic achievement for the Albanian Armed Forces (AAF) within the United States. Two Albanian service members have emerged victorious in the 2026 New Jersey Army National Guard Best Warrior Competition.

The victory was announced via the Embassy’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, highlighting the exceptional performance of Sergeant Marjus Cauli and Corporal Hambel Peçi, who won in their respective divisions.

A Grueling Four-Day Challenge

The competition is designed to push soldiers to their physical and mental breaking points. Over the course of four intense days, Cauli and Peçi competed against elite American counterparts in a series of rigorous trials, including:

  • Obstacle Courses: Testing agility and physical endurance.
  • Water Survival: Evaluating combat skills in aquatic environments.
  • Land Navigation: Precision movement through difficult terrain.
  • Stress Shooting: High-pressure marksmanship exercises utilizing multiple weapon systems.
  • Fitness Tests: Standardized military physical readiness evaluations.

Celebrating 25 Years of Partnership

This success coincides with a significant milestone: the 25th anniversary of the State Partnership Program (SPP) between the New Jersey National Guard and the Albanian Armed Forces.

“Their victory demonstrates the strength of the State Partnership Program. Congratulations!” the Embassy stated, emphasizing that such achievements are a testament to the high level of training and interoperability between the two military forces.

The partnership between New Jersey and Albania is one of the most active in the SPP network, focusing on defense modernization, disaster response, and professional military education. The triumph of Cauli and Peçi in 2026 serves as a powerful symbol of the evolving expertise and combat readiness of Albanian soldiers on the international stage.
