War crimes indictment filed against former Serbian MUP member over alleged role in killing 71 civilians

Kosovo’s Special Prosecution Office of the Republic of Kosovo has filed an indictment against an individual on suspicion of committing war crimes against the civilian population.

According to the prosecution, the indictment alleges that R.D., a former member of Serbia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP), opened fire on May 22, 1999, at the victim identified as Sh.D., who later died from the injuries sustained.

The prosecution further alleges that, acting together with other members of Serbian forces, the defendant participated in the killing of 71 civilians, as well as in inhumane treatment, torture, looting, and the forced expulsion of the Albanian civilian population.

Statement from the Special Prosecution

The Special Prosecution Office of the Republic of Kosovo announced that the indictment has been forwarded to the Special Department of the Basic Court in Pristina for further proceedings.

The defendant remains in pre-trial detention pending judicial proceedings.
