Human remains have been identified and confirmed at a third suspected location in the Zubin Potok area as investigations continue into a war crimes case, Kosovo’s Special Prosecution and Kosovo Police said on Friday.
According to a joint statement by the two institutions, forensic examinations and other necessary investigative procedures are currently underway at the site in coordination with the relevant authorities.
The authorities said the work is aimed at establishing the full circumstances surrounding the case and determining the identity and circumstances of the remains discovered at the location.
“[Kosovo Police] and the Special Prosecution of the Republic of Kosovo remain committed to fully clarifying this case, undertaking all necessary investigative actions in accordance with the law and in close inter-institutional coordination,” the statement said.
The latest discovery follows the identification of suspected mass graves at two other locations in Zubin Potok in recent days.
A suspected mass grave was discovered last Tuesday in the village of Kalludër, while another was identified on Sunday in Jabukë, both in the municipality of Zubin Potok.
The discoveries have prompted an expanded investigation by Kosovo authorities into possible crimes committed during the 1998–1999 Kosovo war.
Further forensic examinations are expected to determine the number of victims and provide additional evidence regarding the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
