Al Jazeera Balkans is preparing to resume operations, but with a major change: the regional broadcaster is expected to return exclusively as a digital media platform.
The network confirmed the plans to FoNet, saying the aim is to relaunch its regional operation while moving entirely to digital distribution.
Al Jazeera Balkans previously broadcast through cable and satellite operators across the region, reaching audiences in countries including Kosovo, Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, North Macedonia and Slovenia.
Under the new format, content would be distributed exclusively online, marking a significant shift away from the traditional television model and toward digital platforms.
The network has not yet announced the exact format of the new operation or a specific launch date.
Al Jazeera Media Network ended the television broadcasting of Al Jazeera Balkans in July 2025 after 14 years, saying the decision was part of a broader strategy to strengthen its digital presence and expand onto new media platforms. At the time, the network said it would continue reporting on the Balkans through other platforms.
The planned digital relaunch would therefore represent a return of the Al Jazeera Balkans brand to the regional media landscape, but in a significantly different form from the television channel that operated from 2011 to 2025.
