U.S. President Donald Trump said Tuesday that all mines in the Strait of Hormuz had been removed or detonated and warned that any Iranian vessel attempting to lay new mines would be destroyed immediately.
“I have just been informed by the United States Navy that all mines have been removed and/or detonated from the international waters of the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.
“Iran has been notified that any ship or boat laying new mines will be immediately and systematically destroyed,” he added.
Trump also said the United States was using space-based capabilities to monitor the strategic waterway.
“Through the Space Force, we are monitoring every square inch of the Strait,” he wrote, adding that a “Zero Tolerance Policy” toward mine-laying was fully in effect.
Trump has repeatedly claimed that the U.S. Navy has cleared mines from the strategically important waterway, including in statements made last week, as he seeks to demonstrate progress amid the ongoing conflict with Iran.
The U.S. president has also repeatedly asserted that Washington controls the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy corridors.
The latest warning comes amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran, with the possibility of further military escalation remaining a major concern.
Earlier this month, Trump announced the cancellation of planned U.S. strikes against Pickaxe Mountain, a deeply buried Iranian nuclear facility that Israel believes was used to store part of Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile and advanced centrifuges.
