Albania Reaffirms Goal of Joining EU by 2030 as Begaj Receives New EU Ambassador

Albanian President Bajram Begaj has reaffirmed the country’s commitment to becoming a full member of the European Union by 2030 during a meeting with the EU’s newly appointed ambassador and head of delegation in Tirana, Sofia Moreira de Sousa.

Begaj received de Sousa’s credentials on Wednesday and used the meeting to reiterate Albania’s commitment to advancing its EU accession process.

In a post on X, Begaj expressed gratitude for the European Union’s continued support for Albania’s reform efforts, describing the bloc’s assistance as important to the country’s transformation.

The Albanian president also said he was confident that Ambassador Sofia Moreira de Sousa would make an important contribution to advancing and completing Albania’s EU accession process.

Albania has identified 2030 as its target for full EU membership, as Tirana continues negotiations and works to advance reforms required for accession.
