EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas is set to host a meeting between European Union and Western Balkan leaders on September 23 in New York, as part of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The meeting will take place during Kallas’ visit to the United States from September 20 to 24. According to the EU, her programme will include “a series of high-level engagements” as well as bilateral meetings with international partners aimed at building interregional alliances to address common global challenges.

The meeting with Western Balkan leaders will form part of this broader diplomatic agenda, providing an opportunity to discuss regional and European priorities.

Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti departed for the United States on Thursday and is expected to participate in activities surrounding the UN General Assembly in New York.

The Western Balkans’ European integration, regional cooperation and broader security and geopolitical developments are expected to feature prominently in discussions between EU and regional leaders.
