Acting Kosovo President Albulena Haxhiu has invited the families of Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi to a meeting following their convictions by the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague.
Haxhiu’s media adviser, Vlora Konushevci, confirmed the invitation to Gazeta Express, saying the recent judgment had deeply affected Kosovo’s population.
“Acting President Albulena Haxhiu has invited the families of Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi to a meeting,” Konushevci said.
She said Haxhiu considered it important to first meet with the families of the former Kosovo Liberation Army leaders in order to discuss what she described as the “path and strategy forward” for Kosovo as a state and society.
“Following the judgment of the Specialist Chambers, which has deeply affected all citizens of Kosovo, the acting President considered it important to first meet with the families of the former KLA leaders, where they can discuss the path and strategy forward that we should follow as a state and as a society,” Konushevci said.
The date and time of the meeting have not yet been announced and will be communicated at a later stage.
The invitation comes after the Specialist Chambers issued first-instance judgments against Thaçi, Veseli, Krasniqi and Selimi. The defendants have the right to appeal the verdicts.
