EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas met separately in New York with Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, urging both sides to advance the normalization of relations between Prishtina and Belgrade.
During the two meetings, Kallas reiterated the European Union’s position that progress in normalization should go hand in hand with progress on the European integration path.
“The EU will continue to be an impartial arbiter. But facilitation cannot replace political will in Belgrade and Prishtina,” Kallas said.
She stressed that agreements reached through the EU-facilitated dialogue, particularly the Ohrid Agreement, must be implemented.
“Implementation of these agreements is not a favor to Brussels, but an obligation toward their citizens and a region that expects normal relations,” she said.
Kallas emphasized that normalization and EU integration should move forward together, reiterating that the agreements reached through the EU-facilitated dialogue are binding.
“I met today with President Vučić and Prime Minister Kurti and raised the need to advance the normalization of relations between Belgrade and Prishtina,” Kallas said.
“Progress in the normalization of relations and advancement on the EU path must go hand in hand.”
She added that the EU would continue facilitating the process but said political commitment from both sides was essential.
“It is time to move forward,” Kallas concluded.
