The leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Lumir Abdixhiku, today paid tribute to Kosovo Police hero Afrim Bunjaku on the third anniversary of his death in the line of duty during the Banjska attack.
Abdixhiku said Bunjaku “gave his life defending the state, its citizens and the sovereignty of Kosovo.”
“On September 24, 2023, in Banjska, Afrim Bunjaku was killed while on duty by an organized, armed and Serbia-backed terrorist group,” Abdixhiku said.
According to Abdixhiku, Bunjaku fell while defending Kosovo’s institutions and citizens.
“Afrim did not retreat. He did not surrender. He stood where duty required him to stand and where the Republic was being defended,” he wrote.
Abdixhiku described Bunjaku as a symbol of Kosovo’s institutions and the Kosovo Police.
“Today, Afrim Bunjaku’s name is more than a name engraved in the history of the Kosovo Police. He is a symbol of a state that protects its citizens, institutions that do not bow to violence, and a Kosovo that is not afraid of anyone,” Abdixhiku said.
In his message, Abdixhiku also called for those responsible for the Banjska attack to face justice.
“Responsibility for this criminal act belongs not only to the direct perpetrators, but also to those who conceived and encouraged it, and they must be held accountable before the law,” the LDK leader said.
Abdixhiku concluded by paying tribute to the fallen police officer.
“Afrim Bunjaku embodies what it means to serve the state with honor. He lives in our collective memory as one of the most devoted heroes of this country,” he wrote.
