Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that Tehran remains open to “genuine diplomacy” while also being prepared to respond to any new U.S. attack.
Araghchi warned that further escalation could lead to what he described as an “apocalyptic war,” as tensions between Iran and the United States remain high.
His remarks come as diplomatic efforts continue toward reaching an agreement between the two countries. U.S. President Donald Trump has said he expects further talks with Iran to take place this week.
Trump has also said he believes the United States will win the war with Iran “very quickly.”
Meanwhile, the U.S. military has denied claims from Tehran that Iranian forces seized an advanced American underwater drone in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s key strategic routes for global oil transportation.
In another development, five people have been arrested near a British air base used by the United States for operations against Iran. British authorities suspect the individuals of offenses linked to explosives and terrorism.
As a security measure, residents living near the base have been evacuated, while investigations into the incident are ongoing.
