A number of citizens spent the night protesting outside the entrance of the Kosovo Assembly as part of the “Not in My Name” initiative, calling on lawmakers to vote on proposed legal amendments concerning the Kosovo Specialist Chambers.
The protesters gathered on Sunday evening and remained outside the Assembly ahead of Monday’s parliamentary proceedings, according to Ekonomia Online.
The “Not in My Name” initiative has called on citizens to gather again at 8:00 a.m. Monday outside the Assembly, as lawmakers are expected to consider the draft law amending and supplementing the Law on the Specialist Chambers and the Specialist Prosecutor’s Office.
Before the plenary session, the Assembly’s Committee on Legislation is expected to meet at 8:00 a.m. to review the draft legislation.
The plenary session is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m., with the first reading of the draft law listed as the first item on the agenda.
Also at 9:00 a.m., the Organization of War Veterans of the Kosovo Liberation Army (OVL-UÇK) has announced a separate protest outside the Assembly, calling on lawmakers to support the proposed legal amendments.
The protests come amid continued public pressure over proposed changes to the legal framework governing the Specialist Chambers and the Specialist Prosecutor’s Office.
