Thousands of protesters took to the streets in several US cities as part of the nationwide “No Kings” demonstrations against President Donald Trump, calling for equal rights, civic participation and early voting ahead of the midterm elections.

Demonstrations were held in Washington, Los Angeles and South Portland, Maine, among other locations.

In the US capital, protesters carried a paper figure depicting Trump near the Lincoln Memorial. In Los Angeles, large crowds gathered outside City Hall, with one demonstrator dressed as the comic-book superhero Batman.

Many protesters carried signs encouraging Americans to vote early in the upcoming midterm elections.

In South Portland, demonstrators lined the roadside as passing drivers honked their horns in a show of support.

Throughout the marches, speakers and participants called for equal rights to be respected. Some also demanded that US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) end its operations.

The “No Kings” demonstrations are part of a broader wave of civic mobilization against the Trump administration’s policies and what organizers describe as an excessive concentration of presidential power.
