As Granit Xhaka himself said at the end of the match between Switzerland and England, he played for 120 minutes with a muscle injury.
To find out more about the consequences of the decision that Xhaka made when he decided to play, the specialist doctor of “Hirslanden Clinic” spoke.
“Physically, it’s not a big injury, but to be active for so many minutes with that thigh problem is not easy. The pain of that injury is intense as it feels like someone sticking a knife in,” said Valter O. Frey.
Asked if there would be consequences for Xhaka’s health, the doctor said: “The chances that he has damaged other muscles are not great. But if he limps like an 85-year-old in the days after the match, he should not be surprised as he has put his body under great stress.”
