Even Europe has reacted to the American president, Joe Biden, who announced that he will withdraw from the presidential race and gave approval for the new candidate of the Democrats to be the vice president, Kamala Harris.
In a written statement, Biden said it has been the greatest honor of his life to serve as president and pledged to remain in office until his term ends in January.
“I will speak to the nation this week and provide more details about my decision,” Biden said.
From Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked Biden for his “unwavering support” during two years of Russian occupation.
“We will always be grateful for President Biden’s leadership. We respect today’s tough but strong decision,” Zelensky said.
The US under Biden has been Ukraine’s main financial and military backer, and there are concerns in both countries that support could end if Donald Trump wins the November presidential election.
Otherwise, his vice president, Kamala Harris, thanked Biden for his “extraordinary leadership” and said she was honored to have his endorsement to run for the White House.
“I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party and unite our nation to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda,” Harris said.
