The Independent Union of Trepça Miners has reacted after the Government decided to allocate 4 million euros to the company due to the wage crisis affecting miners.

The union announced that it will not hold the protest that was scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday.

“The miners’ goal of executing wages has almost been achieved, so we find it unreasonable to hold the protest tomorrow. This was the sole purpose of the protest, and at no point should the miners’ demands be politicized,” the statement said.

They further called on miners to return to work.

Full Statement:

Dear citizens of the Republic of Kosovo, esteemed miners,

Today, August 14, 2024, the Government of the Republic of Kosovo has allocated 4 million euros to subsidize wages for Trepça Sh.A. miners.

Given that we had announced yesterday that we would hold a protest in front of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo with the sole aim of demanding the payment of overdue wages, and considering the government’s response, we are withdrawing from the protest scheduled for tomorrow.

The miners’ goal of executing the wages has almost been achieved, so we find it unreasonable to hold the protest tomorrow. This was the sole purpose of the protest, and at no point should the miners’ demands be politicized.

Miners have not requested and do not request anything else, except for working conditions and dignified wages. Our commitment to work in the mine is and will always remain unwavering.

Therefore, we urge all miners to return to work.

Thank you.

Good luck!
