President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Saturday that Ukraine will do everything possible to compel Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war through diplomacy.

When asked about how he sees the end of the war with Russia, which is approaching its 30th month, Zelensky reiterated his stance that Ukraine’s territorial integrity must be restored.

During a press conference, he stated that Ukraine’s operation in the Kursk region was carried out to prevent Russian attacks from the north and towards the regional city of Sumy.

He added that the operation was challenging but, as he put it, he views its progress positively.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also announced that 115 prisoners of war had been returned from Russia and thanked the United Arab Emirates for their mediating role.

On the same day, the Ukrainian President signed several laws targeting Russia while his country marked the 33rd anniversary of independence from the former Soviet Union. Additionally, the statute allowing Ukraine to join the International Criminal Court was ratified.

The ratification of the Rome Statute by Kyiv increases the chances that Russia will face legal consequences for war crimes since the start of the invasion in February 2022, Zelensky’s office said.
