Former Albanian President Alfred Moisiu stated that the situations between Kosovo and Serbia have not seen any significant improvement.
He emphasized that it is widely known that the attack in Banjskë was organized by Belgrade.
“The Albanian Peace Federation and that of Kosovo have consistently been concerned about understanding and resolving the situations created between the Republic of Kosovo and the Republic of Serbia,” Moisiu said.
“Unfortunately, the situation has not improved noticeably. It is observed that there have been very worrying escalations from time to time, such as the clashes in the municipality of Zvečan and that in Banjskë, which are well known to be organized by Belgrade,” he declared.
Moisiu described the demands of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić as peculiar.
“Recently, in his last speech, President Vučić openly and without any hesitation issued new messages to the Serbs in North Mitrovica, through the so-called conditions for sitting down to negotiate solutions to the problems between the two countries.”
“It should be noted that some of them are very strange, such as the return of the Serbian parties to the police, judiciary, prosecutor’s office, and other institutions, as if they were removed by the Government of Kosovo from those positions, without mentioning at all why this happened and why they have not returned until now,” he highlighted.
The former Albanian president expressed the impression that Serbs in the north are interested in coexisting peacefully with their Albanian neighbors, but that this is being hindered by Belgrade.
“I have the impression that the Serbs living in these areas are more sincere and more interested in peacefully coexisting with their Albanian neighbors. However, their efforts are being obstructed by certain actions ordered by Belgrade,” Moisiu stated.
He made these remarks at the “Balkan Leadership Conference,” held on the theme “Peace, Stability, and Demographic Transition in the Western Balkans,” which was also attended by Prime Minister Albin Kurti.
