James C. O’Brien, the Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs at the U.S. Department of State, accompanied by the U.S. ambassador, has just entered the Government building where Prime Minister Albin Kurti is awaiting their meeting.

O’Brien initially visited Serbia, where he discussed the implementation of the Kosovo-Serbia Agreements and the establishment of the Association. He stated that the obligation has existed since 2015 but emphasized that he cannot provide deadlines, adding that the draft statute needs to be submitted to the Constitutional Court.

When asked about progress in the dialogue, O’Brien noted that there are also direct contacts to move the process forward.

“This obligation has existed since 2015, when these obligations were first signed, and we continue to work on this. I cannot promise any deadlines, but the most important thing is that people, Serbs living in Kosovo, have the opportunity to live as normal European citizens.”
