American Ambassador Jeff Hovenier commented on the visit of U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia, James O’Brien, to Pristina yesterday, where he met with state leaders.
Today, Hovenier stated that they had important discussions with Kosovo’s leaders regarding the partnership with the U.S. and the advancement of Kosovo’s Euro-Atlantic path. “Thank you to Assistant Secretary O’Brien for his visit to Kosovo. We had important discussions with government leaders about our partnership to enhance peace and prosperity, to ensure that all citizens of Kosovo live in dignified and secure conditions, and to advance Kosovo on its path to becoming a modern, European state,” said Hovenier.
O’Brien also addressed the disagreements with the Government of Kosovo, stating that it needs to engage in more discussions before making decisions, which sometimes leads to misunderstandings between Kosovo and the United States.
Meanwhile, the Office of the Prime Minister, in a statement about the meeting between Kurti and O’Brien, noted that they discussed bilateral relations and areas where the close ties between the two countries can be further deepened.
“Prime Minister Kurti expressed his and the Government’s gratitude for the historical role and ongoing support of the United States of America towards the Republic of Kosovo and its people, as well as for the close cooperation in the fields of energy, economy, finance, and security,” the announcement stated.
