The British Ambassador to Kosovo, Jonathan Hargreaves, stated that the United Kingdom does not oppose the opening of the Iber Bridge, but emphasized that this should occur at the right time and under the right circumstances.
“Now, when is the right time to open the bridge?” he asked.
“The right time is when it is safe to do so, after proper consultations with all communities on both sides of the river, to ensure that the bridge can be opened safely and with sufficient community acceptance. We need to know that technical planning has been carried out. Personally, I think we should consider how many vehicles we will need in this state in the context of environmental challenges; all of this needs to be addressed,” said Hargreaves.
The British ambassador remarked that if the bridge over the Iber River had been opened during the summer, there would have been significant security risks, and he described the Prime Minister’s decision not to open the bridge as a positive step.
