The NATO Secretary General, Mark Rutte, after a meeting with Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, stated that Italy is one of NATO’s founding members.
He emphasized that Italy is also helping in the stability of the Western Balkans, by leading NATO’s mission, KFOR.
“Italy is a committed and reliable ally. You are contributing in many ways to Euro-Atlantic security. You lead the new NATO battle group in Bulgaria. You continue to provide troops for NATO deployments, as you mentioned, in Hungary and Latvia.”
“Your planes protect NATO’s airspace, and your navy keeps the major sea routes open. Italy is once again leading our peacekeeping mission in Kosovo, KFOR, helping foster stability in the Western Balkans,” said Rutte.
