A planned EU-Western Balkans summit, originally set for December 4-5, has been canceled. The Bosnian Council of Ministers canceled the summit due to the rejection of a questionable tender for organizing the event.
The two-day event in Neum was expected to bring together key stakeholders from the region and the European Union to discuss important political, economic, and social issues, reports Gazeta Express.
Kosovo’s government has confirmed that Prime Minister Albin Kurti was supposed to participate in this summit. However, with its cancellation, Kurti will still travel to Bosnia and Herzegovina, but instead, he will visit its capital, Sarajevo, for another engagement.
“This trip of the Prime Minister to Bosnia and Herzegovina was planned as part of his participation in the EU-Western Balkans Leaders’ Summit, which was scheduled to be held on December 4 and 5 in Neum. Due to several issues, which have already been made known by the organizer, this summit has been canceled,” said the government spokesperson, Përparim Kryeziu.
“However, the Prime Minister will make a short visit to Sarajevo, where he will meet with representatives of the institutions and political leaders, and also participate in an event organized by the non-governmental organization ‘Independent Intellectuals Association Krug 99’,” Kryeziu added.
The announcement of Kurti’s visit to Sarajevo has triggered reactions and objections from officials in the Republika Srpska, including its president Milorad Dodik. Ministers from RS have stated they will not attend Thursday’s meeting of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina due to Kurti’s visit.
