The Minister of Justice, Albulena Haxhiu, has called the decision of the Specialist Chambers not to allow former President Hashim Thaçi to attend his father’s funeral unjust.
She has addressed the Special Court with questions, urging them to take “immediate measures to ensure that rights are not violated.”
“We believe that this decision is unjust and, given the circumstances, it should be reconsidered. I request that you inform me of my concerns and take immediate action to ensure that Mr. Thaçi’s rights are not violated,” Haxhiu’s request to the Specialist Chambers reads.
On Monday, Haxhiu called the decision of the Specialist Chambers “absurd.”
“Judicial processes must be fair and based on the respect of the most basic human rights. There is nothing more humane than attending the funeral of a parent. Therefore, it is completely absurd, based on what we learned from the media, that former President Thaçi was not granted permission to attend his father’s funeral. Regarding this unjust decision, I will write to the President of the Specialist Chambers,” she wrote on Facebook.
Haxhi Thaçi, the father of the former president, will be buried on Tuesday (March 18).
