Vasfije Krasniqi-Goodman, a survivor of sexual violence during the last war in Kosovo, shared a powerful message on Facebook, marking the anniversary of one of the most painful days of her life.
On April 14, 1999, Krasniqi-Goodman endured violence that, as she says, changed her life forever. She recalls that her fear of death turned into a longing for it because of the trauma she suffered, but emphasizes that despite everything, she chose to live and be a voice for others.
“I lived, even though many times I thought of giving up. […] Today, when I remember that day, I am no longer just a victim. I am proof. I am a voice that survived and will never be silenced,” she wrote.
Krasniqi-Goodman stressed that her pain is part of Kosovo’s history and highlighted the importance of survivors’ voices being heard to ensure that such atrocities are never repeated.
In her emotional message, she expressed gratitude to those who helped her stand up again and underlined the significance of inner strength to survive even in the darkest moments.
