Ukrainian military forces are concentrated in several directions in their fight against the Russian army, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has announced. He wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday that Russian forces had launched more than 70 attacks against Ukrainian positions, noting that battles are ongoing in Pokrovsk, Kramatorsk, Lyman, and Kursk.
“Our forces continue active defensive operations in certain areas of the Kursk and Belgorod regions,” he wrote.
According to Zelensky, the fiercest fighting is being carried out by the 3rd Operational Brigade of the National Guard, “which is exceptionally fulfilling its combat missions in the Pokrovsk direction.”
“Ukraine continues to defend its independence and its land in battle. The situation on the front line and the actual activities of the Russian army show that the current global pressure on Russia is insufficient to end this war. It will soon be fifty days since Russia rejected the United States’ proposal for a full and unconditional ceasefire — a proposal Ukraine accepted back on March 11,” he emphasized.
Zelensky stressed that greater pressure on Russia is needed “to create more opportunities for real diplomacy.”
On Saturday, Zelensky had a face-to-face conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump during the funeral ceremony for Pope Francis.
