Russia’s Ministry of Defense announced on Thursday that Ukrainian forces had made two attempts to breach the border in the Russian region of Kursk since the start of a traditional ceasefire, which was unilaterally declared by Moscow, Rks News reports.

According to Reuters, both Russia and Ukraine have traded accusations of violating the ceasefire, which was announced last week by Russian President Vladimir Putin and came into effect on Thursday.

Russia stated that its attacks on Ukrainian airfields and the capture of the village of Troitske in the Donetsk region occurred before the ceasefire took effect.

On the other hand, a Ukrainian military spokesperson claimed that Russia continued its assaults in several areas along the eastern front, while Ukrainian prosecutors reported that a man was killed and two others injured in shelling in the Sumy region.

In southern Ukraine, Vladimir Saldo, the Russian-appointed governor of the Kherson region, said that a woman was killed by shrapnel from Ukrainian shelling near her home by the Dnipro River.

Reuters notes that it was unable to independently verify the reports from the conflict zones.
