Six martyrs from Vrella, Istog, were exhumed from the graves where they had rested for over two decades.

In fact, the exhumation of one of them required assistance from the Kosovo Security Force (KSF), as he had been buried with ammunition.

Their remains were transported to the morgue until a date is set for reburial at the memorial complex.

“First, they are taken to the Institute of Forensic Medicine, then we will set a date in coordination with the families, the KSF, and the state—as it should be—to honor the martyrs in the most dignified manner possible,” said a family member to Klan Kosova.

The entire exhumation process, which began in Vrella, aims to bring all 47 fallen soldiers from the municipality of Istog to rest in one location.

Opening the new graves at the memorial complex was not easy for the families.

“We feel a bit of sorrow, but mostly pride,” one of them added.

“It’s not easy—there’s a sense of sadness. But I had the strength to decide and to take him to the memorial complex.”

The reburial of the Vrella heroes is expected to take place on June 20, while commemorations will be held every April 12, on Istog’s Martyrs’ Day.
