Kosovo’s Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti emphasized on Friday that relations with the United States remain strong, rejecting claims of a breakdown in ties despite Washington’s recent decision to suspend strategic dialogue planning.

Kurti clarified that the U.S. Embassy’s decision concerned only the suspension of planning, not the dialogue process itself or regular communication.

“We are not broken with the United States, but we do have some differences. Our government takes the U.S. Embassy’s messages and statements very seriously,” Kurti said.

He acknowledged that the differences lie mainly in positions regarding Serbia and the parallel structures in northern Kosovo, but stressed that ongoing communication will ensure continued cooperation.

Kurti added that Kosovo has aligned itself with the West since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, joining the EU and U.S. in adopting multiple sanctions packages against Russia and Belarus.

Highlighting broader ties, Kurti noted:

“The relations and connections between the Republic of Kosovo and the United States go beyond governments. They are built on a long history, strong foundations, and shared values.”

The U.S. suspension of the strategic dialogue comes amid tensions over Kosovo’s handling of constitutional matters and the closure of Serbian parallel structures—moves that have also drawn reactions from the European Union.
