Hajrulla Çeku, the Vetëvendosje candidate for mayor of Prishtina, stated that all other political parties have united in support of Përparim Rama of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) ahead of Sunday’s runoff election.
“They are together again — not for Prishtina, but for themselves. They never separate when it comes to personal interests. They unite in the background, in tenders, in positions — and now together against change. But we will not allow it,” said Çeku in his closing campaign speech.
Meanwhile, Vetëvendosje leader Albin Kurti also criticized Rama, saying that Prishtina has become “a city feeling the weight of four lost years.”
“The projects started were never finished, the promises made were never fulfilled, and citizens are tired of weak excuses and illogical complaints. There were great opportunities, enough funds, and national attention — but everything was lost amidst the lack of planning, excessive arrogance, chronic amateurism, and the financial appetites of its leaders,” Kurti emphasized.
In the first round of elections on October 12, Rama of LDK — seeking a second term — led with 35,595 votes, about 500 more than Çeku.
The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), which came third with around 27 percent of the votes, has not publicly endorsed any candidate, though reports suggest it is backing Rama. Rama has officially received the support of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), which placed fourth with 3 percent.
