Acting Minister of Finance, Hekuran Murati, responded to recent criticisms from the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), emphasizing that Kosovo has long been recognized for free and largely problem-free elections.

Murati highlighted that a major credit for this progress goes to the Vetëvendosje Movement (VV), whose commissioners and observers have protected the integrity of votes over the years.

He further stated that before Vetëvendosje entered electoral contests, election processes were often marked by “industrial-scale vote theft,” mainly in PDK strongholds. He called it a “shame” that PDK now attempts to seek justification after its failures.

Full Reaction from Murati:

“For years, Kosovo has been distinguished by free elections conducted without major problems, earning praise from international observers.

A significant merit for this achievement belongs to Vetëvendosje, whose commissioners and observers have, over the years, protected the vote and electoral integrity, sometimes even physically defending the process.

This achievement has now been publicly acknowledged even by our political opponents.

Before Vetëvendosje entered the electoral race, Kosovo’s elections were frequently characterized by industrial-scale vote theft, with polling stations reporting turnout rates exceeding 120% of eligible voters, primarily in areas known as PDK strongholds.

So when PDK now shouts “catch the thief,” this accusation is, in fact, a confession of their past wrongdoing, similar to a sinner admitting their sins.

The party that will go down in history for mobilizing its supporters to celebrate defeat—not once but twice in a single month—now seeks to justify its failures. Shame!”
