Former chairman of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Memli Krasniqi, confirmed that Hashim Thaçi and Kadri Veseli both currently on trial in The Hague learned of his resignation through the media.
Krasniqi, who announced his resignation on Wednesday afternoon during a press conference, explained that the timing of his decision coincided with a court session at The Hague, where former U.S. ambassador Christopher Hill testified.
“They were informed today, also through the media. There was a court session today — Ambassador Hill was testifying,” Krasniqi said in an interview with Klan Kosova.
He added that some of the PDK members and colleagues involved in the defense teams at The Hague were able to inform Thaçi and Veseli during the breaks in the trial.
When asked whether he had personally notified them beforehand, Krasniqi replied:
“No, we haven’t had the opportunity to meet often.”
Krasniqi’s resignation marks a major shift within PDK, the party once led by Kosovo’s wartime leaders who now face charges before the Special Court in The Hague.
